---ooOoo---

There are always rewarding opportunities for volunteering at the Museum and Historical Society.  Anyone with an interest in our local town and its history with as little as an hour a month to spare please contact us.  Full training is given.

Some current and ongoing activities that volunteers might consider helping with:

  1. DONATIONS

We receive donations of all kinds that relate to local history.  After accepting the item, the process is:

  • Full details (eg donor, story, location in museum) are written up in the Acquisitions Book and a catalogue number is allocated.

  • Details are then entered into an Excel spreadsheet.

  • The item’s number is attached to the item (either written directly on, or with a tag/string).

  • Item is placed in appropriate location.

2. CLEANING OF ANTIQUARIAN BOOKS/JOURNALS

We have a number of old account journals which are being systematically cleaned ready for archiving.  The correct procedure for cleaning these fragile books would be given.

3.  PHOTOGRAPHY ALBUMS

A number of historical photos that have been donated need to be indexed and placed in albums ready for viewing.

4.  HISTORY OF TURALLIN

Historical photos and information relating to the history of Turallin needs to be sorted and catalogued.

5.  HISTORY FILES

All files relating to local districts, businesses, families need to be reviewed and tidied up.

6.  OPENING MUSEUM FOR VISITORS

This is an ongoing all-year round activity with little notice given at times.  Duties:  open all buildings, meet and greet visitors, receive entry fee and enter in accounting book, passive supervision, receive $s for sales of books, close buildings.

7.  FUNCTIONS/CATERING

Assist with set up of tables and chairs, urns, crockery, etc.  Bake cakes/slices, etc.  Help in kitchen.

8.  GENEALOGY RESEARCH

When family history enquiries come in, we aim to collate as much information as we can for people.  This might include searching our files or researching eg on Trove. Suits those with an eye for detail and an inner detective chomping at the bit.  See Genealogy Link here

9.  CURRENT PROJECT - GRAY'S GATE RABBIT HUT

The Gray's Gate Boundary Rider's Hut site is being prepared for opening to the public.  We need some muscle to help with cleaning up the site and moving a picnic table out there.

10.  CLEANING AND GARDENING
